With conference playing kicking off this weekend, Blackburn welcomed Spalding University today for a double header. The Beavers found themselves in the driver’s seat for a victory in both games but were unable to hold onto the lead, losing by scores of 4-2 and 4-3.

Game 1

Starting the day off with a seven inning game, Blackburn jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first inning when Donny Fuhrhop starting things with an inside the park homerun.  Matt Mokriakow also scored on a Cody Flowers base hit to center field.  The Beavers lost the lead in the fourth and could not find a solution on offense to rally back.

Donny Fuhrhop had a great day at the plate going 3-3 with a HR while Josh Voightlander went 1-2. Caleb Schubach took the loss giving up 4 runs and striking out 6 in a complete game effort.

Game 2

The second game featured a delay in the offensive assault as Blackburn struggled to put up runs early on.  But down 2-0 in the sixth, the Beavers rallied to tie the game up off of back to back two out hits by the duo of Cody Meyer and Cody Flowers.  Then again in the seventh Blackburn took the lead when Josh Voightlander scored on Donny Fuhrhop’s single.  Spalding immediately retaliated and put up two runs in the top of the eighth and held on for the victory.

Cody Flowers went on to go 2-4 with an RBI as Josh Voightlander went 2-5. Vinnie Birk took the loss in relief throwing three innings and giving up two unearned runs.  Sunday’s series finale has been cancelled due to weather and is scheduled for April 20th, following the Westminster game.
