Blackburn Can't Knock Off SLIAC Leading Gorloks

The Blackburn College baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to the Webster University Gorloks on Sunday afternoon at GCS Stadium in Sauget, Ill. With the losses, Blackburn is now 6-9 in conference play while the Gorloks remain undefeated at 14-0.

In game one, a pair of lefthanders took the hill. Blackburn's Cody Unser was outdueled as he went 5 innings while surrundering 6 earned runs with three strikeouts. He battled through a couple of defensive mishaps in the loss.

The Beavers were only able to get 4 hits off of Webster's lefty. They got on top in the first innning when Vinnie Birk walked, stole second, and then later came around to score on a Josh Voigtlander 2-out RBI single.

The Gorloks scored 4 in the bottom half of the third and held on to win by a score of 8-1.

In game two, the Beavers fell 6-4. Blackburn starter Vinnie Birk had a rough day on the hill as he had trouble finding the zone. He issued a career high 4 walks along with plunking 3 Gorloks. He battled through and only managed to surrender 3 earned runs over the course of 4 innings. Josh Norsigian and Jacob Baalman each threw 2 innings in relief.
