After spending nearly a month practicing in a gym, the Blackburn College Baseball team was very anxious to step onto the field and begin their highly anticipated season. The Beavers had the tough task of tackling number twelve nationally ranked Millsaps College in the first game of a double header Saturday morning. The veteran Beaver squad would not be intimidated by Millsaps as starter Jacob Baalman sat down the first three hitters for Millsaps in order. Then in the bottom half of the inning, Blackburn's offense exploded to the tune of six runs.

Millsaps would proceed to scrap and claw their way back into the game to set up a very dramatic ninth inning. Blackburn closer Vinnie Birk took the mound with a 6-5 lead needing only three outs to secure the Beaver's first win of the season. The bases were loaded with two outs in the top of the ninth when Millsaps found themselves caught in a run down. The tying run on third broke for home as shortstop Franklin Bush fired the ball home to catcher Jose Osorio, unfortunately the throw was low in the dirt thus allowing the run to score. The tying run was the beginning of an eight run two out rally by Millsaps who went on to win the game 13-7.

Aaron Moody was the leading hitter for Blackburn with a 2-4 performance and a run batted in.

In game two against Birmingham-Southern, Blackburn would continue their first inning success jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Birmhingham-Southern fought back to tie the game up at two after two innings. After scoring another run in the top of the third, the Beavers found themselves at the wrong end of a big inning, surrendering four runs. Down 6-3, Blackburn would continue to scrap for runs scoring one apiece in the fourth and fifth. Yet Birmingham-Southern would tack four more runs to their lead and put the game away 10-6.

Although they were on the losing side, Blackburn outhit the opponent 12-7. Having a solid day at the plate was Vinnie Birk going 3-4 with 2 RBIs while Jacob Conder, Donny Fuhrhop, and Josh Voightlander each had two hits.

Now at 0-2, Blackburn will wrap up their Alabama trip tomorrow with a rematch against Millsaps at 2:00 pm.
