Osorio goes yard, follows up with walkoff in split with MacMurray

The Beavers were looking to turn the page on a disappointing March while still in search of their first conference win of the season.  On Tuesday they hosted St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference division rival MacMurray College for a doubleheader.  Blackburn had lost the first game of the series 10-0 last Wednesday.

In game one MacMurray struck first with a three-run first inning, all of which were unearned runs.  The Beavers bounced back in the top of the second scoring two runs off of an RBI double by Joey Szerletich.  Kelan Doria would drive in Szerletich immediately with an RBI single.  MacMurray would respond in the bottom half of the inning with two more runs of their own to extend the lead 5-2.

Mac continued to extend their lead as they scored three more unanswered runs in the third and fourth inning.  Down 8-2 in the final inning, Blackburn showed potential signs of life.  With runners on second and third with only one out, Matt Mokraikow hit a hard ground ball which was snagged by a diving play from the MacMurray shortstop.  The play would score Vinnie Birk from third, but it remained as the lone run of the inning as Blackburn dropped game on 8-3.

Vinnie Birk was the leading hitter for Blackburn with a 2-3 performance.

In game two, MacMurray continued to stay hot as they scored three runs to start the game.  Blackburn would chip away at the deficit when Tylor Klipfel drove in Jon Lowry in the bottom of the second.

In the following inning, Brock Hill narrowed the gap even more with a solo homerun to left field bringing the score to 3-2.   MacMurray tallied another run in the top of the fifth to extend the lead 4-2.  In the bottom of the sixth inning, Jose Osorio led the inning off with a solo blast of his own to bring his team within one.  Aaron Moody and Matt Mokriakow then hit back-to-back doubles to tie the game 4-4.

MacMurray retook the lead again in the top of the ninth when they scored a run off a passed ball with the bases loaded.  Tyler Durand would strand two runners on base as his Beavers entered the bottom of the 9th down 5-4.

The action was started in the bottom of the ninth by Doug Matas who reached first on an error by the pitcher.  Jon Lowry stepped in the box immediately after to smash a double to right center, putting runners on second and third with nobody out.

Kelan Doria had the opportunity to seal the deal for Blackburn, but was hit by the pitch, loading the bases for Jose Osorio.  The senior catcher from Puerto Rico jumped on the first pitch for a base hit to left field scoring both Matas and Lowry to win the game, ending an eight game losing streak.

Jon Lowry, Matt Mokriakow, and game hero Jose Osorio each had three hits for the Beavers.  Doug Matas had two hits while Brock Hill hit his third homerun of the season.

Tyler Durand picked up the win in relief for Blackburn after throwing 2/3 innings surrendering one unearned run.
