Beavers Fall to Adrian Mississippi

The Blackburn College Baseball Team took on perennial power Adrian College in non-conference baseball action Saturday afternoon in Jackson, Mississippi.  Despite banging out 15 hits the Beavers dropped a 15-7 decision to the Bulldogs.

Adrian struck first with three runs in the top of the 1st.  The Beavers came back in the second, as Brock Hill and Joey Szerletich went back to back with homeruns to cut the lead to 3-2.  After Adrian added two runs in the top of the 3rd, the Beavers responded with two runs on their own with an RBI double by Hill and an RBI single by Szerletich.  Adrian scored two more in the fourth chasing Blackburn starter Jarrett Sandlin.  Dillon Hensley entered the game and slowed down the Bulldog bats as the Beavers clawed to back to 7-5 on an RBI by Szerletich but then Adrian changed momentum as Jared Jones flied out to left and Adrian leftfielder Josh Knorr threw out Tyler Durand at the plate.

Adrian then scored seven runs over the next two innings to take control of the contest.  Matt Mokriakow added a two-run single in the eighth inning for the Beavers who fall to 0-5 to start the season.

Due to the weather forecast in the greater New Orleans area this week, Blackburn will take on Loyola of New Orleans in a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Segnette Field on the West Bank.
