Binder Goes Four for Four and Knocks in Winning Run as Baseball Wins in Extras

Blackburn Freshman Right Fielder Mitchell Binder went 4 for 4 and delivered the game winning hit in the top of the 10th inning to give the Beavers a 6-3 ten-inning victory over Dallas Christian College on Saturday in Dallas,  Texas.  The Beavers were able to work around seven walks but played error-free for ten innings to gain the victory.

Blackburn took a 1-0 lead in the third inning as Binder singled, advanced to second on a Christian Padilla sacrifice bunt and scored on a Tyler Jackson RBI single.  Dallas Christian answered with a three-run third inning off Blackburn opener Dalton Fisher.  The damage was done all after two outs as the Crusaders had four hits to drive in the three runs.

The Beavers tied it in the top of the 5th as Steven Diaz doubled, Jackson doubled him home and advanced to third on the throw to the plate.  Jackson then scored the tying run on a Ryan Steen sacrifice fly.  The Blackburn pitching of Isaac Garrett, Lowell Schwartz and Sammy Gordon kept Dallas Christian off the board the rest of the way.  Blackburn tallied three in the top of the 10th inning to gain the victory.  After one out, Trevor Platt singled but was injured and replaced by Austin Presley at first.  Presley advanced to second on a wild pitch, then younger brother Logan Presley walked.  After Bubby Stepp moved the Presley's up with a ground out to second, Gordon was then hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Binder singled through the right side to score two to give the Beavers the 5-3 lead.  Christian Padilla added an RBI single to make it 6-3.

Gordon picked up his second win with two innings of scoreless relief.

Blackburn is now 2-9 and has the week to heal up before starting conference play next weekend at Greenville University.
