Tough Start to Second Half Dooms Men's Basketball

The Blackburn College Men's Basketball Team let a 35-28 halftime advantage slip away in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon in Carlinville as they fell 74-69 to Iowa Wesleyan College.

The Tigers of Iowa Wesleyan out-scored Blackburn 28-9 over the first 11:57 seconds of the second half to take a 56-44 lead with 8:03 to play.  The Beavers chipped away at the lead getting it down to three points twice but could never regain posession with an opportunity to tie.

Chris Davis led five players in double figures with 17 points.  Davis was joined by Jamie Moore with 13, Jon Lowry with eleven, and Matt Chandler and Colin Gowin with ten apiece.  The Beavers were out-rebounded 35-30 and commited five more turnovers than Iowa Wesleyan as Blackburn had 14 to the Tiger's nine.  Both teams shot 45 percent from the field.  Blackburn continued their good free throw shooting as the Beavers were 19 of 22 from the line for 86 percent.

Blackburn is now 0-8 on the year and 0-3 in the SLIAC and has one remaining contest before the Christmas break with a road trip to face Illinois Wesleyan University on Tuesday night in Bloomington.
