Beavers Can't Find Answer For Golden Eagles

Beavers Can't Find Answer For Golden Eagles

By: Aaron Moody - Blackburn Sports Information

The Blackburn College Men’s Basketball Team entered the day hoping to ride the momentum off of a dominating performance against Eureka College earlier this week.  Unfortunately they had a tough task ahead taking on a talented Spalding University who currently sits atop the standings in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  The Beavers competed well with the Golden Eagles for a good portion of the first half.  Eventually Spalding slowly cruised into halftime with a 19 point lead 46-27.

The Beavers came out for the second half with a goal to stop the suffocating press that Spalding implemented.  Blackburn began to narrow the deficit, cutting it down to as low as 12.  Yet that would be as close as it would get with Spalding’s Brandon Goening lighting up the scoreboard to the tune of 28 points after hitting seven shots from beyond the arc.  Spalding continued to press for the remainder of the game and went on to win the game 90-69.

Chris Davis was leading scorer for Blackburn with 19 points, 10 coming from the free throw line, while Jamie Moore played well with a 17 point performance.  Continuing their current home stand, next Blackburn will host Webster University on January 29th at 8:00 pm.
