Men's Basketball Loses Nailbiter

The Blackburn College Men's Basketball Team lost a 66-65 heartbreaker at home to Principia College on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.  The Beavers had a chance to win it at the buzzer but Chris Davis' shot went off the back of the rim preserving the win for the Panthers.

Principia led the Beavers 25-22 at halftime and continued to lead the contest until the 13:41 mark of the second half.  Blackburn took a 37-36 lead on a Matt Chandler jumper and proceeded to lead the contest over the next seven minutes with the largest margin of six at 49-43 with 9:26 remaining.  The contest stayed tight the rest of the afternoon as the score was tied ten different times.  With Principia leading 64-63, Jamie Moore was fouled with 42 seconds remaining and sank both free throws to give the Beavers a 65-64 edge.  With 16 seconds to go Kenny Sydness of Principia was fouled and dropped both free throws to give the Panthers the lead ahead of Davis' shot to try to win it for Blackburn.

Davis led Blackburn in scoring with 17 points, he was joined in double figures by Moore and Chandler as they added twelve points apiece.  Neither team shot particularly well with Blackburn 19 of 51 from the field for 37 percent compared to Principia's 21 of 61 for 34 percent. Principia out-rebounded Blackburn 44-35 with a handful of long rebounds after missed three-pointers on the offensive end.  

Blackburn falls to 0-12 on the season and 0-5 in SLIAC play while Principia is now 3-8 overall and 2-3 in the league.
