Men's Basketball Falls In Conference Play

The Blackburn College Men’s Basketball Team played a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at Greenville College. The Panthers of Greenville College outscored the Beavers of Blackburn College 98-58.

The Panthers pounced on Blackburn early in the first half and never looked back. Greenville shot an impressive 58 percent (21-36) from the field and Blackburn struggled as they only shot 29 percent (9-31) from the field. Blackburn was out scored in the first half by 27 points (54-27).

The second half was the same story as Blackburn was outscored by 13 points (44-31). The Beavers shot much better from the field (44 percent) but the eight turnovers they committed in the half limited how many scoring opportunities they had. The second half ended in a Greenville victory with a score of 98-58.

Blackburn’s key performers were freshmen Chris Davis and Tommy Ulinski. Davis scored 13 points and dished out three assists. Ulinski scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds. Greenville was led by Alex Mumphard and Ron Harris. Mumphard scored 13 points, recorded five assists, and added five steals. Harris scored 14 points, blocked three shots, and grabbed 13 rebounds.

With this loss Blackburn has an overall record of 0-7 and a conference record of 0-2. The men’s team is scheduled to be back in action in a home contest on Saturday, December 14 against, St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent, Iowa Wesleyan. Tip-off time is scheduled for 3:00 PM following the women’s game.
