Blueboys Shoot Away Blackburn

The Blackburn College Men's Basketball Team lost a non-conference game to the Illinois College Blueboys on Saturday afternoon in Carlinville by a score of 91-64.

The players on both teams were aware of the severe blizzard-like conditions expected this evening, but they were anything but cold. The Blueboys made an impressive 16 3-pointers in the game while Blackburn knocked down 10 of their own.

Illinois College was in control for almost the entire game and had a halftime lead of 46-22. Blackburn played right with them in the second half with a score of 45-42, but the first half deficit was too much to overcome. THh game ended with Illinois College on top, 91-64.

Blackburn was led by four players who all barely reached double-digit scoring numbers. Jamie Moore(Springfield, Ill.) was the team-high with 13, followed by Matt Chandler with 12, and Jon Lowry(Peoria Heights, Ill.) and Chris Davis each with 11. Moore also was the team leader in rebounds with 5. As a team, Blackburn was outrebounded 28 to 19.

Brandon Berry was the scoring leader for the Blueboys by putting in 17 points. Zeke Light hit 5 three-pointers for his 15 points. Light and Berry were Illinois Collge's leading rebounders in the game, each with 5. Justin Smith also collected double-digit points for Illinois College with his 13.

Blackburn is still winless on the year at 0-10 while Illinois College is two games above .500 at 6-4. The Beavers will travel to Louisville, Kentucky to take on Spalding University for another SLIAC matchup on Tuesday night. Blackburn will then travel to conference rival MacMurray College on Thursday before returning home on Saturday to host the Panthers of Principia Collge.
