Women's Basketball Wins Second Straight

The Blackburn College Women's Basketball continued their good start to the year 2014 with a dominating St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference 71-49 win over Principia College on Saturday afternoon in Carlinville.

The Beavers played an all-around good game. Four players scored in double-digits and as a team they had 47 rebounds and 21 steals.

Shelby Smith led the charge on the scoring front by knocking down 10 of 16 shots and amasssing 27 points. Briana Rae earned herself another double-double with 15 rebounds and 11 points. Rae also had six steals and five assists while playing a great game on all sides of the ball.

Ciara Morgan scored 12 points and led the team with an impressive eight steals. Her seven rebounds were tied with Smith for second most on the team. Erin Bell collected 10 points of her own for the Beavers. Alicia George had 6 assists in her second career game as a Beaver.

For the Panthers of Principia, Spencer Randolph was the go-to player with her 21 points and three steals. Karina Olsen tied Rae for the game high in rebounds with 15.

Blackburn is now 3-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play and will travel to Webster University on Tuesday.
