Back and Forth Battle Ends in Blackburn OT Victory

By: Vinnie Birk - Blackburn College Sports Information

The Blackburn College Men's Basketball team leapfrogged the Principia College Panthers in the SLIAC standings with an overtime victory Saturday afternoon. With the 72-70 win, Blackburn now sits at 2-4 in conference play while the Panthers are 1-5.

The Beavers trailed by five at the halfway mark, but a strong push led by Chris Davis' 14 second half points (Kevil, Ky.) sent the game into overtime. Two huge three-pointers and a free throw had Blackburn up by seven at the opening of overtime. The Panthers tried to make a late run but the Blackburn defense stood up strong and secured the two-point victory.

Davis was the team's leading scorer with 22 points and he also added five assists. Andre Strayhorn pitched in 11 points off the bench for the Beavers and shot three for seven beyond the arc.

Blackburn will be back in action next Wednesday when they are on the road to take on rival MacMurray College at 8:00 PM. Back in December, the Highlanders beat the Beavers 87-69.
