Blackburn Gives Webster a Scare, but Falls 56-46

Despite having just one lead in the game, the Blackburn College men's basketball team was right with the visiting Webster University Gorloks throughout Wednesday's SLIAC matchup. The third-place Gorloks were able to edge away with a 10-point, 64-54 victory, which was also their largest lead of the game. Webster is now 6-3 in conference play while the Beavers are 2-7.

Blackburn went into halftime only down 22-20 and clearly had the Gorloks, playing without their leading scorer, on edge. The second half was just as hard fought as the first, but Blackburn just couldn't get over the hump. After a three-pointer from Andre Strayhorn (Paducah, Ky.), Blackburn found themselves down just six points with 1:30 remaining. Webster sealed the victory by notching clutch free throws at the conclusion of the game.

The Beavers shot 18-59 from the floor, just above 30% and only 4-25 from beyond the arc, good for 16%. Chris J. Davis (Kevil, Ky.) led the team with ten points, seven rebounds, and four steals while Chris A. Davis (Springfield, Ill.) pitched in eight points and six rebounds. Blackburn also received contributions from Willie Orange (Chicago, Ill.) (seven points) and Jordan McMillen (Greenfield, Ill.) (six rebounds).

The 46 Blackburn points was the lowest scoring output this season, but also the 56 Webster points was the least Blackburn has given up all year. The three-game home stand continues as the Beavers welcome Spalding University to Carlinville this Saturday for a 3:00 tip-off.
