11-0 Spalding Rally Sinks Beavers

The Blackburn College Men's Basketball Team saw Spalding University go on an 11-0 run to break open a tie game and defeat the Beavers 63-49 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Carlinville.

The Beavers challenged the Golden Eagles as the game went back and forth in the first half.  Spalding was down 12-11 when they went on a 10-2 run to retake the lead as the first half winded down.  Blackburn rallied back with a 9-6 run to bring the score to 27-23 to close the half.

The second half was just as competitive with Spalding unable to extend their lead past five points.  The Beavers fought back to tie the game at 39 with 10:57 left in the game.  However the Golden Eagles came back with an 11-0 run to put themselves up 50-39.  Blackburn showed signs of a comeback as they narrowed the deficit 50-46, but it was not enough as Spalding pulled away and cruised to a 63-49 win.

Andre Strayhorn lead the was offensively for Blackburn with 15 points and three steals.  Next up for the Beavers will be Greenville College next Wednesday January 28th at 8:00 pm.
