Thriller at Blackburn

Thriller at Blackburn

With no one on campus the Blackburn Men's Basketball team decided to get their second win of the season.  In a game against a competitive Rose-Hulman team, Blackburn was able to fight their way back from a 15 point deficit.  The final score of the game being 73-69 in favor of Blackburn College.  Blackburn took advantage of this game in which they were the smaller team by putting ball pressure on the Engineers of Rose-Hulman, forcing 18 turnovers.  The Beavers were led at the offensive end by DeAndre Manual who scored a team high 14.  Manual wasn't the only Beaver in double figures, Jake Mastranzi and Chris Davis both scored 13; Jamie Moore chipped in with 10 points as well.

At the end of the first half, the Beavers found themselves down 34-29.  Coming out of halftime, Rose-Hulman seemed to click as they found the first eight points of the second half.  The largest lead for Rose-Hulman was with 8:30 to play in the second half in which the Engineers led by 15.  At this point the Beavers started their comeback.  Blackburn poured in the next 10 points to cut the lead to five.  Blackburn continued to play possession basketball until they found themselves leading by three with two minutes to go.  After a Rose-Hulman misfire on a three, Blackburn corralled the rebound and was fouled with one minute and thirty seconds left in the ball game.  From there the Beavers put the icing on the cake making all but one of six attempts from the charity stripe.

The Beavers improve to 2-8 and their next game is to take place on Jan. 2 in Carlinville, against Webster University Gorloks at 3:00pm.
