Men's Hoops Come Up Short In Exciting Battle

It was standing room only in Dawes Gymnasium as the Beavers hosted conference rival MacMurray College. The Beavers were riding the momentum after upsetting Fontbonne University 89-83 for their first win of the season. Blackburn was also looking to stay atop of the conference standings and get their first win at home. Blackburn started the game stagnant, and found themselves at the wrong end of a 10-2 run from tip off. They spent the entire first half clawing their way back, eventually tying the game at 43 with a minute left in the half. After starting the game down 10-2, they closed the first half 48-45. MacMurray came out of halftime and went on another quick run to extend their lead 62-51. But the Beavers rallied back with a 13-2 run to tie the game again 64-64. From that point on the two sides went shot for shot with each other until MacMurray pulled ahead 88-81 with only 1:14. A comeback was looking unlikely until Chris Davis hit a three pointer, followed up by getting a quick steal with Henry Hicks scoring the resulting bucket. That five point swing brought the Beavers within two with 42 seconds left. MacMurray was still sitting in the driver’s seat with the opportunity to make it a two possession game. But Henry Hicks came through with another clutch steal. With eleven seconds left on the clock, the Beavers drew up a play to tie the game up. Unfortunately MacMurray was suffocating and didn’t allow an open shot, thus holding on to take the win 88-86. Chris Davis had an excellent game for Blackburn. He scored a team-high 18 points while also snatching five boards and getting four steals. Henry Hicks scored 17 after going 8-11 from the field. And Jamie Moore had 14 points and eight rebounds. Blackburn will be on the road for their next game when they travel to Missouri S&T for a non-conference game on December 8th.
