Spalding Snap Beavers Three Game Win Streak

Junior Raushaun Amos (St. Louis, Missouri / Soldan) had a career night with 10 rebounds, seven assists, and five points but the Blackburn men's basketball team fell 73-71 in an exhilarating finish at Spalding on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles led 6-0 early before the Beavers tied the game, 20-20, capped off with a three-point shot from freshman Cristian Wagner (San Diego, California / Rancho Bernardo) with 11:53 remaining in the period. With 13 seconds left in the half, Jerry Coleman made a tough layup to give Spalding a 38-36 lead into halftime.

Blackburn led 52-45 with 13:47 to play before Spalding scored six unanswered points to cut the lead to one with 11:09 on the clock. A layup from Tim Marston (Murphysboro, Illinois / Murphysboro) brought the Beavers lead back up to seven before Spalding’s Dominique Ellis provided a spark with five consecutive points to bring the lead within two with 5:13 remaining.

A jump shot from Nigel Ferrell (St. Louis, Missouri / Lift for Life Academy) gave BC a 71-66 lead with 2:00 to play, but a three-point shot from Ellis the very next play cut the lead to two. The Golden Eagles would then go on a 4-0 run to take a two-point lead with 0:06 left. After a BC timeout, Amos would be inbounded the ball but unfortunately, have it stolen from him by Ellis.
