Blackburn Wins Second Straight in Win Against Iowa Wesleyan

The Blackburn men's basketball team won their second straight after an 82-73 home victory on Saturday afternoon. The Beavers are now 11-10 on the year with an 8-6 record in SLIAC action.
 
Junior Karson Hayes (Little Rock, Arkansas / John L McClellan) led the Beavers by registering an impressive 13-points, four assists, and three rebounds.
 
Duncan King (Peoria, Illinois / Richwoods) and Bryson Kirby (Lincoln, Illinois / Lincoln) also scored in double figures, each tallying 12 points. King also contributed with four rebounds and three assists while Kirby added four rebounds to the winning effort.
 
Both teams played an up-and-down game early with Iowa Wesleyan opening up a 14-9 lead with just under seven minutes into the contest. The Beavers continued to go at the Tigers, however, and eventually used a 14-2 run to take a seven-point lead with 9:42 remaining in the period. The Beavers would remain strong and increased their lead to have a 44-32 edge at the break.

The second half went on to be much of the same as the Beaver lead extended to 15 points by the 16:52 mark with a 3-point shot from Hayes. However, the Tigers would go on to outscore their opponent 41-38 in the final period of play. The ball was held through the final buzzer with the final score being 82-73 to Blackburn.
 
The Beavers finished the victory by shooting 46.6 percent – including a 50 percent clip from the three-point line (7 of 14) in the first half. The Beavers, in total, made 10 of 26 from beyond the arc (38.5 percent), while the Tigers shot 9 of 23 from long range (39.1 percent).
 
UP NEXT: The Beavers are back in action on Wednesday, traveling to play Fontbonne at their place. The game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
