Blackburn Looks Reinvigorated in Win against Westminster

Karson Hayes (Little Rock, Arkansas / John L McClellan) scored 16 points; Jamaya Wyatt (Chicago, Illinois / Uplift) added 12 and Blackburn routed Westminster 73-62 on Saturday afternoon in a SLIAC conference matchup.

Raushaun Amos (St. Louis, Missouri / Soldan) added 11 points along with an impressive 5 rebounds to help the Beavers (now 3-3) bounce back from their loss at MacMurray.

Blackburn looked nothing like the group that lost to MacMurray earlier in the week. The Beavers never trailed, shot 25 of 61 (41 percent) and won the battle of the boards 46-29. Romo Tabb scored with a game-high 17 points on 7-of-18 shooting to lead the Blue Jays. But No. 1 scorer Kobe Wands, who averages 20.7 points, was a focus in the Beavers defensive scheme and finished with 12.

Blackburn made a strong start going on a 10-2 run within the first five minutes of the ball game before leading by 20 points at the 9:51 mark on a layup from Cristian Wagner (San Diego, California / Rancho Bernardo). However, Westminster would not give up that easy as they would come back to end the half down nine at 39-30. The second half continued to be in Blackburn’s favor, as they would lead most of the quarter by ten. The Blue Jays efforts would not be enough in the second half as the closest they would get to catching the Beavers was a seven-point deficit. The ball was held through the final buzzer with the final score being 73-62 to Blackburn.

Up Next: The Beavers play Wednesday, Dec. 5, in a 7:00 p.m. matchup against McKendree University at their home court.
