Men's Golf Preview

Second year Blackburn College Men's Golf Coach John Malin is upbeat about the Beavers upcoming season.  Malin welcomes six golfers to this year's team that looks to be much improved from a year ago.  Leading the way is a freshman newcomer Kyle Kessinger.  Kessinger, from Carrollton, played at the #1 spot in many matches this fall and projects to be in the top three this spring.  "Kyle has an excellent short game and putting stroke, he is an intelligent kid which leads to a very strong mental game," said Malin.

Another freshman, Jordan McMillen from Greenfield.  McMillen played in two state championship golf tournaments in high school.  "He is most likely the tallest golfer in Blackburn history," said Malin.  McMillen at 6'8" is also a member of the Blackburn Basketball Team.  "Jordan is a good thinker and hard worker that should be in our top three," added Malin.

Island Lake, Illinois native, Matt Liddell is a junior college transfer from Lincoln College.  "Matt is a big hitter who played #3 in the fall and was our most consistent scorer including two really good matches at Piper Glen in Chatham and Belk Park in Wood River," said Malin.

Returner Tyler Solie of Phoenix, Arizona will look for improvement with his driver this spring.  "Tyler is an intelligent player that stays under control who is very good with his irons," said Malin.

Four year golfer Lucas Rochkes returns for the Beavers as well. The Pana, Illinois native could break into the top four with hard work indicated Malin.

Newcomer Matt Hartnett of Roxana, Illinois rounds out the roster.  Hartnett is also a member of the basketball team.

The team will compete in their first match in late March at the Gorlok Invitational in St. Louis on March 29 and 30.
