Men's Golf Finishes Fourth in Conference Tourney

On April 22nd and 23rd, the Blackburn College Men's Golf team competed in the St. Louis Intercollegiate golf tournament at Weaverridge Golf Club in Peoria, Ill.  The tournament is setup to test the stamina, patience, shot making ability of any golfers game. With 36 holes to be played the first day and the final 18 to be played on the second day it would take extreme patience to withstand the golf course and maintain good golf during both days.  With sunny skies for most of the first day, the Beavers played solid shooting a team score of 336. The first round was led by Senior, Anthony Harper, who shot an opening round 77. He was followed by Senior, Matt Kinsella who shot 84, Thomas White added an 87 and was followed closely by Jacob Crews who shot an 88.

In the second round the Beavers shot a 336 as a team.  Leading the Beavers in the second round was Harper who shot an 81 and Kinsella who shot an 82.  Rounding out the scoring for the Beavers was Isaac Garrett who shot an 86 and Crews who shot an 87.

In the third round with much tougher conditions, the Beavers shot a team score of 336, giving them a three day total of 1008, which earned the Beavers 4th place in the conference tournament.  Rounding out the third round in scoring was Thomas White who shot an 81, Harper who shot an 83, Kinsella shot an 85, and Crews shot an 87.

Harper's three round total of 241 was good enough finish 10th place overall in the field and earn him second team all-conference honors.

"It was a tough day out there today, I kept grinding and found a way to finish the round.  Definitely not the score I wanted to shoot in my final tournament but we got it done and earned all conference honors today.  I want to thank my parents and teammates for their continuous support over the years, it's been an incredibly journey. I look forward to the next step in my golf career and I will always cherish the memories I made at Blackburn College"  Says Harper.

Coach Shultz   "Finishing up our season, the team was able to finish in the top half of conference with a 4th place finish.  After finishing 3rd place last year, and losing three all conference golfers, our team was young. Each player stepped up when they were needed.  Seniors Anthony Harper and Matt Kinsella lead the way for our team with the two lowest totals for the 3 rounds this week. Anthony was able to find himself on the second team all conference.  The young trio of Thomas White, Jake Crews, and Isaac Garrett were also big contributors through-out this year. I am looking for them to step up and be leaders for years to come, and I am excited for our future.  The leadership of Harper and Kinsella will be tough to replace but they have been wonderful role models for the upperclassmen."
