Rinderer's Goal Pushes Blackburn to Victory

The Blackburn College Men's Soccer Team defeated Robert Morris University-Springfield by the slimmest of margins on Wednesday afternoon, 1-0.

Freshman forward Lucas Rinderer (Highland, Ill.) tapped scored the lone goal in the game in the 70th minute. Assists on the play came from Drew Wolfer (Decatur, Ill.) and Reed Gwillum (Springfield, Ill.). The ball was played over the top to Rinderer and the Eagles' goalie came pouncing out for the ball. Rinderer made a little tap on the ball to push it past the keeper. The ball rolled about 18 yards and won the race with the goalie back to the net. The goal was Rinderer's first of his collegiate career.

Shane Rogers (Granite City, Ill.) was not tested much in goal but saved all three shots for another shutout. Blackburn had 16 shots in the game, five of which came from Wolfer while Jake Pope (Waggoner, Ill.) had three. The Beavers also had a total of nine corner kicks.

Conference play opens up this weekend as Blackburn travels to Westminster College in Missouri. Blackburn is now 4-6 on the year.
