Physical Game Ends in 4-2 Blackburn Loss

The Blackburn College Men's Soccer team dropped to 2-4 in SLIAC play with a rough 4-2 loss against the Principia Panthers on Tuesday.

Despite being outshot 14-6, the Beavers concocted numerous opportunities off of seven corner kicks. Both Blackburn goals came off Leandro Fonteles (Manaus, Brazil) corner kicks. Nate Kinnison (Perryville, Mo.) notched the first header off a beautiful play while Reed Gwillum (Springfield, Ill.) knocked home the second tally. Kinnison also led Blackburn in shots with two.

The Panthers got on the board with two goals in the first half that were virtually unstoppable. Nate Waters had five shots, three goals, and an assist for Principia in the game.

An outstanding chance for Blackburn came because of the speed of freshman Lucas Rinderer (Highland, Ill). The ball came rolling back outside the box towards the Panther goalkeeper. Rinderer applied speed pressure on him which forced the goalie to shank it to the side. At a tough angle, Rinderer put a low, accurate shot towards the net only for it to be touched away by a Principia defender just before it crossed the line.

With a 6-10 overall record, Blackburn will take on Webster University this Saturday.
