Big Second Half Propels Men's Soccer to Victory

The Blackburn College Men's Soccer Team trailed 1-0 at halftime before reeling off six unanswered goals in the second half to cruise to a 6-1 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over Iowa Wesleyan University on a soggy Tuesday afternoon in Carlinville.

The visiting Tigers scored a goal at 13:29 to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.  Steven Njuba then scored two straight goals on the way to a hat-trick. Njuba scored at 53:04 on an assist from Harry Arter and then again at 60:14 on a penalty kick.  Arter then scored at 64:16 with Nate Kinnison assisting, he finished with two assists. Kinnison assisted on Njuba's third goal at 70:54.

Mikey Stephenson then scored his team leading sixth goal of the season at 74:17 on an assist from James Curtis.  Curtis rounded out the scoring at 86:02 with Tommy Millburg assisting.

Blackburn which only out-shot Iowa Wesleyan 4-2 in the first half including a Stephenson shot off the post, enjoyed a 19-5 second half shot advantage.

The match marked the final time seniors Njuba, Ben Hoover, Daniel Nguepnang and Stephenson will play at home.  The Beavers round out the season on Saturday at Eureka College.  The Beavers are currently 6-10-2 on the season and 2-6 in the SLIAC.
