Principia Takes 2OT Win Over Blackburn

The Men`s Blackburn Soccer team traveled to Elsah, Illinois on Tuesday, October 20th to play Principia College in a conference match up. Principia dominated the first half by pressuring the Blackburn defense and found the back of the net early in the match at 13:35. The game quickly became physical because both teams fought over the ball. Blackburn had a total of four yellow cards and Principia had a total of six yellow cards and one red card. Principia had the 1-0 advantage over Blackburn heading into halftime.

The Beavers came ready to fight in the second half. The Blackburn offense tested the Principia defense to get a total of four off sides for the match. Harry Arter (Jerseyville, Ill.) slipped one past the Principia goalie at 74:24 to even the score at 1-1. The game went into double overtime. Off of a free kick, Principia put another one on the board to take the 2-1 overtime win over the Beavers. Principia had a total of 31 shots on goal while Blackburn combined for twelve. Jourdan Greene (Taylorville, Ill.) came up with seven saves for the match.

The Beavers fall to 5-9-2 for the season. The Men`s Soccer team looks to turn things around as they travel to Kentucky to play Spalding College on Saturday, October 24th. Game time is estimated to start at 1pm.
