Sam Lomanto headed a passed ball perfectly into the net at the 64th minute to lift Blackburn College to a 1-0 non-conference victory over Eureka College on Thursday afternoon in Carlinville.
Lomanto headed the ball after a pass from Daniel Nguepnang to give the Beavers the lead which they held on with the help of great defensive play by Steven Njuba with the shutout credited to Jourdin Greene.
The well played and even match saw the Beavers out-shoot Eureka by a 9-8 margin with a 3-1 shots on goal margin. The Red Devils had some chances with eight corner kicks however Njuba was a force on defense in the box thwarting those opportunties before they got on goal.
Blackburn moves its record to 5-7-2 on the season and will host Westminster College on Saturday afternoon. Blackburn will meet Eureka again the last game of the season in their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match.
