CARLINVILLE, IL — Blackburn College Men's Soccer hosted Lyon College Saturday Afternoon for a St.Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup and came away with 1-1 tie with the Scots.
The goal marks the first time this season that the Scots have given up a goal in SLIAC play.
Lyon scored a goal in the beginning of the second half to take a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute. The Beavers managed to tie the game in the 82nd minute. On a corner kick, Sophomore Johnny Perla was taken to the ground by a Scot defender with the ball in the call, getting called for a foul to give the Beavers a penalty kick. Perla stepped up to take the kick and as the Lyon goalkeeper dived to his right, Perla put the ball right down the middle for his first goal of the game and tied the game at 1-1.
Neither team was able to find the net in the final minutes, forcing the game into the 1-1 final score.
Sophomore goalkeeper Juan Vargas posted seven saves in the outing.
The Beavers will return to action Saturday, October 18th when they host Eureka College in another SLIAC contest. As part of the contest, the team will celebrate Senior Day to honor their seniors.
