Beaverthon Annual 5K

Beaverthon Annual 5K

On September 26th, at Blackburn College, the Blackburn Cross Country team hosted the annual Beaverthon 5K run.  The event goes back to the early 1980s when a group of students on campus wanted to start a cross country team.  Before the event was called the Beaverthon, it was called the Turkey Trot and took place every Thanksgiving.

At the event, Cross Country members did not participate.  However, they did help with directing and managing the race.  The event started at 8:30 am and took place on Blackburn's campus.  The race has overall winners in both the men's and women's division.  Winning the men's division was Jake DeRousse with a time of eighteen minutes and fifty seven seconds.  Winning the women's division was Kyra Huber with a time of twenty nine minutes and seventeen seconds.  Also running in the race, was Joshua Davis (Class of 1989), who later that night was inducted into the Blackburn Athletic Hall of Fame.  Running with him, was his coach Charlie Pohlman.  Coach Mark Hopping said "The Beaverthon was a successful event this year, and he looks forward to the race next year."

The Cross Country team's next race will be at Principia, on October 10th at 11:00am.
