Blackburn Dominates MacMurray With Softball Sweep

A dominating weekend of Blackburn sports continued into Monday as the softball team traveled to MacMurray College for a double header.  After the baseball team swept the Highlanders this weekend, softball continued the trend and took both games in the double header by scores of 6-3 and 9-0.  Blackburn dominated in all aspects of the game winning game one by way of small ball and then having a power surge in game two, hitting three homeruns.

In game one, the bunting game flourished as Blackburn exposed MacMurray defensively.  The action got going when Bri Markel bunted for a hit and stole second. Mary Chamberlain drove her in with a double followed by an RBI hit from Lauren Rhodes.  The Beavers scored the majority of their runs with two outs and dug deep into Mac’s bullpen forcing them to throw five pitchers in the first game.

At the plate, Bri Markel and Miranda Hartman each had a big day going 3-4. Mary Chamberlain went 2-4 with two doubles. Amber Byrley got the win for the Beavers going the distance.

Game two featured a power display when the team hit three homeruns in 9-0 landslide victory.  Ashley Donoho hit a two-run shot with Mary Chamberlain and Katelin Tickner hit solo shots of their own. Lauren Rhodes pitched four innings for Blackburn, but had to exit the game due to injury. Mary Chamberlain took over and held off the Highlanders to secure the shutout and the sweep.  Katelin Tickner provided much of the offense going 2-4 with a double and a homerun.

Now sitting at 16-13 (5-5 SLIAC) Blackburn will take on Eureka for a double header tomorrow. First pitch at 3:00 pm.
