Softball Jumps All Over Gorloks in Game Two to Gain Split

The Blackburn College Softball Team responded after a first game of the double header loss to Webster University with a four-run first and rolled to an 8-2 win over the Gorloks to move to 3-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Beavers took advantage of some Webster miscues and used an rbi single by Lauren Rhodes and then a two-run single by Kelsey Moreland to jump out to a 4-0 lead.  After Webster scored single runs in the bottom of the first and third innings to get back into the game, Blackburn put away the Gorloks with a three-run fourth as Miranda Hart's rbi single highlighted the outburst.

Lauren Rhodes notched the pitching victory, striking out six Gorloks without walking any.  Briana Markel, last year's conference player of the year added another home run and was two for five.  Miranda Hartman was three for four on the night while Rhodes added two hits.

Blackburn's school record start of 12-3 has seen an offensive explosion as the Beavers now have 24 homeruns on the season.  A crucial confererence doubleheader will be played this Thursday against Fontbonne University in Carlinville at 5:00 p.m. as the top two teams in the SLIAC will be in action.
