Blackburn Falls to Principia

The Beavers won the hit battle 9-7 on Tuesday, but couldn't push enough runs across to get the win, instead losing 7-5 in seven innings to Principia at Elsah, IL.

It was a good day at the plate for Blackburn's Lauren Rhodes. Rhodes went 2-3 and scored two runs. She tripled in the fourth inning and singled in the seventh inning.

Principia couldn't get anything going as long as Amber Byrley was pitching. They managed just two hits off of the Beavers' pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out four during her 4 2/3 innings of work.

Even though Casey Lee allowed five runs over seven innings she still recorded the victory. Casey struck out three, walked one and gave up nine hits.

Erica Wilson couldn't get it done in the circle for Blackburn, taking a loss. She allowed six runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked one and struck out none.

Principia never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring three runs on a groundout by Ashley Shoemake and an RBI single by Samantha Bronkar.

Principia added three more runs in the bottom of the second. The inning got off to a hot start when Christine Nacewicz tripled, bringing home Lee and Thanda Kyaw.

After pushing across one run in the top of the fourth, the Beavers faced just a 6-1 deficit. A groundout by Melissa Heigert triggered the Beavers' comeback. Finally, Lee got Amber to ground out to end the threat.

Principia scored one run of its own in the fourth with Kelsey Whitney scoring an RBI single.

The Beavers scored four runs in the top of the seventh to cut its deficit to two. A two-run single by Meghan Ude and a two-run triple by Aimee Kerley fueled Blackburn's comeback. Principia's Lee induced a ground out to close things out.
