Blackburn Slips in Extra Innings

Blackburn Slips in Extra Innings

The Beavers played MacMurray yesterday evening in a rescheduled home conference game hoping to pick up some wins after their two game loss against Principia the night before.

In game one, Lauren Rhodes pitched a decent game, with only one walk and three stikeouts. She ran into trouble when MacMurray picked up on her pitches and started hammering in some runs. However, Blackburn always answered back. In the bottom of the seventh, neither team could grab the lead and the game went into extra innings. In an international tie breaker, both teams have an at bat with their last out starting on second base. Both teams held strong and in the ninth, they each scored a run. Blackburn fell in the tenth when Hocker of MacMurray hit a homerun that was followed by singles. The Beavers just couldn't battle their way back from that one and Rhodes took the loss, 11-6.

Game two was pitched by Amber Byrley, who had four walks, four strike outs, and eleven hits off of her. While Blackburn's hitting was coming out strong, they couldn't manage to break through MacMurrays defense. When on base, the Beavers jumped at every chance they got, with Kate Tickner earning two stolen bases and Aimee Kerley and Mary Chamberlain each with one of their own. While there was only one error for Blackburn, at the plate, MacMurray just managed to hit gaps and hard hits to pull out a win of 8 to 4.

The Blackburn Softball Team will face Greenville College at home tonight, April 17, at 5pm and 7pm, hoping to improve on their conference record of 2-9.
