Blackburn Drops the Ball in 5 to Greenville

Thursday night, April 17, the Blackburn College Softball Team faced the Panthers of Greenville College.

In the first game, Melissa Heigert made her pitching debut, having three walks, two strikeouts, and 13 hits against her. Blackburn struggled at the plate and only managed one hit that just wasn't enough to catch back up to the Panthers. Greenville won the game in five innings, 16-0.

In game two, Erica Wilson took the mound and the Beavers started hitting. Lauren Rhodes and Mary Chamberlain each earned a double, while Wilson recieved the teams one and only RBI. Blackburn continued to battle throughout the game, but the Panthers just seemed to place hard hits into gaps. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners in scoring position hoping to extend the game, Megan Ude attempted to move the runners, but just couldn't break through Greenville's defense. Wilson took the loss 9-1.

The Blackburn Beavers are now 2-11 in conference and will face Fontbonne on the road Saturday, April 19, at 1pm and 3pm.
