Beavers Overwhelmed By Fontbonne

It was a difficult day at the park for the Blackburn College Softball Team on Wednesday evening.  The Beavers took on Fontbonne University, who is currently undefeated in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a record of 12-0.  Fontbonne would remain undefeated after today, taking both games of the double header 23-0 and 17-0.

In game one, the Beavers sent Mary Chamberlain to the mound in hopes to slow down the explosive offense of Fontbonne.  Unfortunately nothing could slow down the Griffin bats, who tallied 11 runs in the first three innings.  Blackburn's offense could not manage to spark any momentum, only managing two hits for the whole game;  Jaclyn Elmore hit a double and Hannah Goett hit a single.

Fontbonne went on to score 12 more runs in the final two innings, including a 10-run fourth inning.

The Beavers looked to Chamberlain again to bounce back in game two.  After giving up four runs in the first inning, Chamberlain settled to throw two shutout innings before giving up two runs in the fourth inning.

Blackburn's offense couldn't find any support for Chamberlain, as Fontbonne pitcher Madison Leanard no-hit the Beavers.  Fontbonne went on to explode for 11 runs in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 17-0, thus ending the game after five innings.

Blackburn now sits with a record of 5-21 and will travel to MacMurray College this saturday for a doubleheader.
