Beavers split Doubleheader

On Sunday, April 3rd, Blackburn Softball team split a double header with St. Louis College of Pharmacy.  The weather was perfect for softball despite a few gusts of wind that came in a stirred up the dust of the infield; the Beavers took full advantage winning the first game of the afternoon by a score of 12-4, in six innings.  In the second game of the afternoon the Beavers found themselves burned out as they lost by a score of 6-0. 

                In the first game, the Beavers found themselves tied with the St. Louis College of Pharmacy after three innings, 3-3.  In the bottom of the 4th the Beavers came to bat and scored four runs in the innings to create separation from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy.  The Beavers continued to score in the following innings, scoring two runs in the fifth, and three runs in the sixth to short game St. Louis College of Pharmacy. 

                Leading Blackburn in hitting was Jaclyn Elmore who had two hits on three at bats with three RBIs.  Elmore also scored two runs for the Beavers on the day.  Also swinging the bat well for the Beavers was Lauren Rhodes who had two hits on 4 at bats with 3 runs.  Hannah Goett also hit well for the Beavers with two doubles and one RBI.  Also having RBIs in the first game was Karson Gragert who had two RBIs, and Faydra Sommer, who had one RBI.

                The win in the game went to Shannon Clardy of Blackburn, who pitched 6 innings and gave up three earned runs with zero strikeouts. 

                In the second game of the afternoon, the Beavers found themselves unable to put the ball into play as they only recorded four hits in the game.  The Beavers with hits were Lauren Rhodes, Cazarae Hartman, Alanni Young, and Faydra Sommer.  The winning pitcher was Kristen Kolkmeyer of St. Louis College of Pharmacy who pitched seven innings gave up four hits, and recorded one strikeout.  The losing pitcher was Lauren Rhodes of Blackburn, who pitched seven innings, gave up six hits, six earned runs, and recorded one strikeout.  The Beavers lost the second game of the afternoon by a score of 6-0.

The Beavers next games will be on Tuesday, April 5th against Maryville (MO).  The first game will start at 5 pm and the second game is set to start at 7 pm.
