Rough Series for the Beavers

On Tuesday April 5th, Blackburn Women's Softball team lost a doubleheader to the Maryville University Saints.  The first games final score was 16-1 in favor of Maryville.  In the second game of the evening, Blackburn lost by a final score of 12-0.  Both games were short gamed. 

                In the first game of the evening the Beavers found themselves down quickly after the first inning as the Saints came out swinging scoring six first inning runs.  The Beavers got their lone run of the game on a leadoff home run by Jaclyn Elmore.  The Beavers would never cross the plate again, as the Saints piled up 10 more runs before the game ended by a final score of 16-1. 

                The winning pitcher was Wendy Macias who pitched 5 innings, gave up one earned run, and had nine strikeouts.  The losing pitcher of the first game was Shannon Clardy, who gave up 10 hits, on four earned runs, and two strikeouts while giving up three home runs. 

                For the Saints, the bats were alive all evening in the first game they managed as a team to compile 15 hits and score 16 runs.  The Saints had three home runs as a team in the first game as well. 

                In the second game of the afternoon, the Beavers found themselves down 6-0 after the first inning.  The Beavers would never cross the plate for the game as the Saints would pile on six more runs.  The story of the second game was the senior for Maryville, Alex Flasch, who had two home runs in the second game to make her total for the day three home runs.  Blackburn lost the game by a final score of 12-0. 

                The winning pitcher of the second game was Nikki Taylor, who pitched five innings giving up only five hits, no earned runs, and striking out two batters.  The losing pitcher in the second game of the evening was Jensen Ballinger who pitched three innings giving up 10 hits, 9 earned runs, and one strikeout. 

                The Beavers next game is on Wednesday, April 6th, a conference double header against Eureka College.  The first game is set to start around 4 pm, with the second game to start around 6 pm.
