Beavers lose a Close One

On Saturday, April 9th, the Blackburn Beavers Women's Softball team had a double header against Webster University Gorloks.  The Beavers found themselves in some close conference games but, fell to the Gorloks in the first game by a score of 7-3.

Blackburn found themselves down two runs going into the bottom of the first, but quickly answered with a RBI single by Hannah Goett to bring the game to a 2-1 score after one inning.  The next run of the game didn't come until the 3rd inning and it was the Gorloks who started to pull away from the Beavers as they scored one run in the 3rd and another run in the 4th.  The Beavers were able to score one run in the fifth and one run in the seventh, but by that time the Gorloks had put together a total of seven runs to best the Beavers by four, 7-3.

Batting well for the Beavers on the day was Jaclyn Elmore who went 2-4 with a home run and a double.  Also, batting well for the Beavers was Lauren Rhodes who went 2-4 with a homerun.  Hannah Goett had the other RBI for the Beavers.

The winning pitcher of the first game of the afternoon was Alexis Spriggs, who gave up seven hits, three earned runs with 8 strikeouts.

The losing pitcher of the first game was Shannon Clardy who gave up six hits, five earned runs, with two strikeouts.

The second game of the afternoon however, was much more exciting as the Beavers and Gorloks were neck and neck, trading runs until the seventh inning, when the Gorloks were able to score a run in the top of the seventh to take the lead at 9-8.  The Beavers were unable to capitalize on a seventh inning rally as the Gorloks were able to get the final two outs of the game with runners in scoring position.

The winning pitcher of the second game was Paige Prather who pitched 4.1 innings gave up 3 hits, no earned runs, with two strikeouts.

The losing pitcher of the second game was Lauren Rhodes who pitched seven innings gave up 13 hits, five earned runs, with three strikeouts.

The Beavers next game is on Sunday April 10th against Robert Morris (Springfield).  The first game is set to start at 1:00pm, and the second game is set to start around 3:00pm.
