Softball Team Makes Long Trip North and Sweeps Maranatha Baptist

The Blackburn College Softball Team made the five-hour trek to Watertown, Wisconsin on Monday and picked up a doubleheader sweep against Maranatha Baptist Bible College by the scores of 10-2 and 11-8.

In game one, freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Wade pitched a three-hitter to lead the Beavers to the victory.  Wade went six innings striking out five and not walking a batter.  Nikki Ridgeway singled in the first run of the game in a two-run second inning to get the Beavers off to a good start. Blackburn added four runs in the fourth with Hannah Goett delivering the big blow with a two-run double.  Blackburn was the beneficiary of of eleven Crusader walks and that was all Wade needed to give the Beavers the game one win.

Game two was a different story as the teams slugged it out until Wade came in to save the game for Blackburn.  Wade came in relief of Jensen Ballinger and threw two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no walks to clinch the win for Blackburn. Goett led the offense again as she was two for three with two RBI's.

Blackburn moves to 7-15 on the season and will host Principia College in a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday night in Carlinville.
