Frerichs Powers Blackburn to Opening Doubleheader Sweep

Blackburn College junior outfielder Abby Frerichs was four for eight on the day as the Beavers swept the MacMurray College Highlanders 11-0 and 8-6 on Friday afternoon in Jacksonville to open the season.  The games were scheduled as non-conference games.  Frerichs was two for three in game one with a pair of runs batted in and was two for four in the nitecap with another RBI.

In game one, Halle Fransen started on the mound and went four innings allowing two hits to pick up the victory. Baylee Hughes closed out the game with a shut-out fifith inning in a game that was halted by the ten-run rule.  Hughes, Lexie Yockey, Haley Shull, Kennedy Henson and Fransen all had two hits apiece to help lead the 13-hit attack.

In game two, Megan Mosely had three hits while Hughes, Frerichs and Tessa Beckham added two apiece to lead the 14-hit attack.  Kaitlyn Wade started on the mound and went three innings to pick up the victory before being relieved by Beckham who pitched four innings while striking out nine.

Blackburn begins the season 2-0 and will travel to Florida next weekend for their spring break trip.
