Women's Basketball Falls To Greenville

The Blackburn College Women’s Basketball Team played a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at Greenville College. The Panthers of Greenville College outscored the Beavers of Blackburn College 97-71.

Blackburn started the game sluggish as they were on the wrong end of a 24-5 run in the first five minutes of the game. The remainder of the first half was back-and-forth, as the Greenville lead didn’t fluctuate much from 20 points. The first half score was 60-41 with Greenville in the lead.

The second half started and it was, just like the first half, back-and-forth as neither team could either increase or cut the lead. Blackburn was unable to get the Greenville lead to less than 17 points for the remainder of the game. The game ended with a score of 97-71.

Junior Ciara Morgan played an impressive game as she filled the stat line. Morgan had 30 points, eleven points, and eight steals. Shelby Smith added twelve points and seven rebounds and Briana Rae added nine points and grabbed eight rebounds. Greenville was led by Emily Gundy. Gundy had 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out six assists.

With this loss Blackburn has an overall record of 1-6 and a conference record of 0-2. The women’s team is scheduled to be back in action in a home contest on Saturday, December 14 against, St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent, Iowa Wesleyan. Tip-off time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
