High-Scoring Affair Has Blackburn on Losing Side

The Blackburn College Women's Basketball Team fell to SLIAC foe Webster University by a score of 86 -74 on Wednesday night. It marked only the fourth time this season that the Beavers lost when scoring 70 or more points.

Junior Briana Rae (Staunton, Ill.) recorded another double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds and 16 points. Five of Rae's ten boards were offensive. Shelby Smith (Jerseyville, Ill.) cashed in for a team-high 21 points while Ciara Morgan chipped in for 16 of her own. Danique Smith also found herself in double-digits with her 11 points.

The Gorloks were led by Courtney Pursley, 26 points, and Cassie Endicott, 20 points. Endicott also was a force to be reckoned with on the defensive side of the ball. She swatted away a toatl of seven Blackburn shot attempts.

Blackburn kept right with the Gorloks in the second half. They went back and forth after the intermission, each scoring 44 points. The 12-point margin came in the first half when Blackburn started off slowly.

The 23 Beaver turnovers certainly didn't help the cause either. Blackburn turnovers turned into Gorlok fastbreak points. Webster took care of the ball much more efficiently, only surrendering eleven giveaways.

The loss puts Blackburn at 3-14 overall with a 2-8 conference mark. The Beavers host Westminster College on Saturday for their fourth game in a six-game home stretch. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 PM.
