Women fall to Westminster

The Blackburn College Women’s Basketball Team was defeated by a score of 88-66 in Fulton, Mo. against the Blue Jays of Westminster College on Saturday, January 18. This was a St. Louis Intercollegiete Athletic Conference game. Westminster shooting a better percentage from the field and controling the boards proved to win the game for them.

In the first half Westminster shot 50 percent from the field and an impressive 62.5 percent from behind the 3-point line. Blackburn shot only 32 percent from the field and 16.7 from behind the 3-point line. Blackburn was also out rebounded 17-13 in the first half. The Blue Jays closed out the half with a 46-24 lead.

 In the second half, the Beavers showed some signs of life as they scored 42 points in the half. Westminster also scored 42 points in the second half. The major difference in the second half was that Blackburn was out rebounded 25-17.

Blackburn’s key performers were junior Ciara Morgan (15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals), junior Briana Rae (14 points and 7 rebounds), and sophomore Erin Bell (14 points and 5 rebounds).

This loss moves Blackburn’s overall record to 3-11 and conference record to 2-5. The Beavers are scheduled to play again on Wednesday, January 22 starting at 6:00 PM. This will be a home contest against St. Louis Intercollegeiat e Athletic Conference opponent, Eureka College.
