Davis Leads The Way For Beavers

With the music blasting during pre-game introductions, the Beavers looked hungry to take on St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Greenville College.  The excitement carried over into the game when Blackburn had jumped to an early 16-10 lead.  Greenville clawed their way back in, tying the game at 21.  The Beavers stumbled at this point as the Panthers went on an 18-4 run to pull ahead.  But with the first half winding down Blackburn rallied closing out the half on a 13-6 run of their own.

Down 49-43 to start the second half Blackburn stayed hot with a quick three-pointer by Jaime Moore to kick off the action.  The Beavers continued to fight as they eventually tied the game back up 54-54.  It was a neck and neck fight as the lead swapped sides.  Blackburn pulled ahead to their biggest lead of the night up 74-65.  Greenville would not go quietly as they leaned on senior forward Ron Harris and his 19 points and 13 rebounds to retake the lead 76-74 with 4:59 left in the game.

As time winded down, Blackburn’s Chris J. Davis put the game out of reach scoring 11 of the teams final 18 points.  With Greenville forced to foul, Blackburn went 8-8 from the free throw line in the final 2:00 of play as they held on to win 90-87.

Chris J. Davis led all scorers with 26 points including going an impressive 16-17 from the charity stripe.  Freshman Jake Lochhead had a breakout game scoring a career high 20 points going 3-3 from beyond the arc.  Jaime Moor also had 16 points.

The victory puts the Beavers at 4-14 with a SLIAC record of 3-8.  Saturday January 31st the team will travel to Iowa Wesleyan for their next game.
