Beavers Lose a Tough One to Spalding

The Blackburn College Women’s Basketball team squared away with St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents from Spalding University on Saturday, January 24. It was a lopsided game as the Beavers couldn’t find an answer for the powerhouse Golden Eagles of Spalding University. The final score had Spalding on top 97-41.

Spalding jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they lit it up, shooting 58.5 percent from the field in the first half and 48.8 percent from the field in the entire game. The Beavers struggled as they shot only 20 percent from the field in the game and turned the ball over 23 times. Blackburn was also out rebounded 61-36.

Blackburn was led by senior, Briana Rae who scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Spalding was led by Kayla Styles who scored 15 points, dished out seven assists and brought down eleven rebounds.

The Beavers will take the court again in a home contest on Wednesday, January 28 against conference opponents from Greenville College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
