Rae Shines On Senior Day

Rae Shines On Senior Day

Senior forward Briana Rae has achieved many milestones in her four-year career as a Beaver.  On Senior Day, she added one more as she became Blackburn College’s all-time leader in career rebounds.  Going against Westminster College for the afternoon, Rae needed three boards to take the lead with 873.  She easily achieved this feat four minutes into the first half.

But it was going to take a team effort for Blackburn to knock off the Blue Jays who entered the afternoon second the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  The Blue Jays commanded the game early cruising to a 17-8 lead.  The Beavers were having minimal success offensively, shooting less than 25 percent in the first half.  Westminster capitalized an extended their lead to 39-21 to close the first half.

Down 53-30 in the second half, Rae emerged again scoring Blackburn’s next ten points.  However it would not be enough as Westminster ran away with the game 74-44.  Rae lead all players with 24 points and 13 rebounds.  Danae Smith added a career high 12 rebounds.

Also being recognized on the afternoon was guard Alicia George.  George, a junior college transfer, is playing in her second season as a Beaver.  At the end of today’s game, George has scored 212 career points, grabbed 85 rebounds, amassed 77 assists, collected 25 steals, and blocked one shot.

With five games remaining in her career, Rae has scored 1277 points which is third all-time, snatched an all-time leading 883 rebounds, collected 152 steals, dealt out 138 assists, and blocked 101 shots.

Next piece of action for Blackburn will be February 10th at Principia College.
