Women's Basketball Hosts Special Olympics Games

On Sunday December 14, the Blackburn College Women's Basketball Team hosted 54 athletes consisting of six different Special Olympics teams.  The six teams played a tournament format on the regulation collegiate court inside the Dawes Gymnasium.

"We've been looking to get involved with Special Olympics for awhile now, and were grateful to be presented with a wonderful opportunity to host what we hope to be an annual tournament. Being surrounded by so many athletes who have a real passion and joy for the game, reminded our players, and myself that playing basketball can be more than just a game. We had an amazing time getting to know the athletes, families and volunteers, and look forward to working with Special Olympics in the future," said Blackburn Women's Coach Jen Windmiller.

Blackburn Athletic Director Mark Hopping witnessed the event and said, "Our women's basketball team, led by Coach Jen Windmiller, did a wonderful job coordinating this 6 team Special Olympics Basketball Tournament. This event showed that the 'winners' are not necessarily those who win, but those who have the courage to get in the game. Blackburn was proud to be a part of this event!"
