Beavers fall to Spalding at Home

On a cold winter night in Carlinville, the Blackburn Women's Basketball team suffered their 14th loss of the season and fourth game in a row to the visiting Spalding University Golden Eagles.  The Beavers lost by a final score of 70-47.

The Beavers seemed to be matching the Golden Eagles for most of the first quarter until the Golden Eagles where able to find their way into the paint and dominate the Beavers from the inside.  This was due to the fact that the Beavers were missing freshman center, Angela Andrews, who is first on the team in rebounding, averaging around 9 rebounds per game, and she is also second in the conference in rebounding.  The Beavers gave up 34 points inside the paint to the Golden Eagles.

The Beavers were led by guard Aleisha Stiltner who tallied a total of 14 points and buried 4-7 three point attempts.  Also scoring in double figures was guard Candace Pollock who had 10 points.  Leading the Beavers in rebounds was Danae Smith who grabbed 9 boards.  Leading the Beavers in assists was Danique Smith

The Golden Eagles were led by Maya Hardin who had 16 points.  Also scoring in double figures for the Golden Eagles was Alex Martin who had 12 points, Mackenzie Myers who had 11 points, and Brandy Hunter who added 10 points.  Leading the Golden Eagles in rebounds was Maya Hardin who had nine boards.  Leading the Golden Eagles in assists was also Maya Hardin.

The Beavers look to continue their season as they move on to face Fontbonne University on Saturday January 23, in Carlinville with the tip off set for 1 pm.
