Beavers fall to Blue Jays

On Wednesday, February 10, 2016 the top team in the SLIAC conference came to Carlinville and battled the Beavers.  The Beavers were unable to handle the pressure as the Blue Jays of Westminster College defeated the Beavers of Blackburn College by a final score of 71-51. 

                The Beavers started the game slow and found themselves trailing at the end of the first quarter 16-9.  The Beavers then opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run to cut the Blue Jay lead to just one.  The Beavers would never get closer than that as the Blue Jays continued to capitalize on Beaver turnovers.  At the end of the first half the score was 36-27 in favor of the Blue Jays.  The Blue Jays continue to dominate the rest of the game by forcing turnovers and taking those Beaver turnovers and turned them into points for the Blue Jays.  The final score was 71-51 in favor of the Blue Jays.

                Leading the way for the Beavers was Aleisha Stiltner who had a game high 20 points.  Also scoring in double figures for the Beavers was Danique Smith who had ten points.  Leading the Beavers in rebounding was Gariel Pierce with twelve rebounds.  Candace Pollock lead the Beavers in assists with three assists.  The Beavers shot 33.3% from the field, 25.0% from three point range, and 86.4% from the charity stripe.  The Beavers as a team grabbed 41 rebounds and committed 36 turnovers. 

                Leading the way for the Blue Jays was Krista Armontrout, who had 14 points.  Also scoring in double figures for the Blue Jays was Kasey Gatson with 13, Andrea Zalis with twelve, and Mirrakohl Johnson.  Leading the Blue Jays in rebounds was Mackenzie Haddox with seven rebounds.  Kasey Gatson lead the Blue Jays in assists with three. 

                The Beavers look to continue their schedule as they hit the road and travel to Iowa Wesleyan University to take on the Tigers on Saturday February 13th with the tip off time set for 1 pm.
