Beavers Fall to Griffins

On January 24th, the Blackburn Women's basketball team took on conference foe, Fontbonne University Griffins.  The Beavers entered the game having just came off a win on tuesday night looked to down the Griffins in Carlinville.  Fontbonne won by a final score of 73-40.

Blackburn came out ready to play as they went into halftime only down seven points.  Fontbonne came out of halftime scoring the first seven points of the third quarter.  The Beavers were unable to find the bottom of the net in the third quarter until under six minutes to play in the quarter.  The Griffins outscored the Beavers 20-10 in the third and 26-10 in the fourth quarter.  The Griffins won by a final score of 73-40.  

Leading the way for Blackburn was Kate Smith and Jenna Dudra, each with ten points apiece.  Maria Cline and Gariel Pierce grabbed six rebounds apiece.  Leading the team in assists, was Dudra with three.

Leading the way for Fontbonne was Kaitlynn Walker, who was a huge help off the bench with 12 points.  Also scoring in double figures for the Griffins was Sarah Schraut and Rylee Stafford with 11 apiece, and Raven Venegas added 10.  Katie Sportsman led the team in rebounding with eight rebounds.  Paige Black and Riley Guffy dished out three assists each for Fontbonne.

Looking ahead the Beavers travel to Eureka on Saturday January 27th, to take on the second place Red Devils.  The game is set to tip off at 1 pm.
